Welcome!
Hello! Thank you for visiting my page. You may have read my bio in the “about” section of the site but in case not, here’s the link. I want to share with you the sorts of things you’ll find here on my blog.
Information: the main goal of my blog is to provide you with information. I do my best to provide the latest information from evidence based journals and research. But research progresses rapidly and blogs last forever—I’ll post corrections and updates when I discover them.
Extended social media posts: this is a cheater category because if I want to write more about what I post on my facebook page or instagram account, it’s probably informational so, see #1.
Support: no one wants to feel alone. Everyone wants to know someone is going through the same thing as them. I may share personal stories, things from the news, memes, client stories (with permission of course), etc to hit on a variety of topics.
4. Lastly, I will post a lot of stuff about breastfeeding/chestfeeding and how awesome it is. I’m a lactation consultant. My job is literally “to provide services that protect, promote and support breastfeeding” (IBCLC Code of Conduct). Breastfeeding is the biological norm and I will speak of it as such. Promoting breastfeeding does not mean bashing formula feeding. Formula is very necessary for many of the families I care for. In every aspect of my work, I aim to educate on both sides of a topic so you can make an informed decision.
This means I’ll say stuff like “formula increases the risk of childhood obesity” rather than “breastfeeding decreases….” To say the latter infers that formula feeding is biologically normal. It’s not. Babies are meant to drink human milk straight out of the uterus….I mean, be born then crawl up to the breast…not drink milk from a uterus…you know what I mean. This is not new or surprising information.
Formula is like medicine. It has a specific use and a specific time frame. Formula is not evil; it serves a specific purpose. It is absolutely necessary at times and I do use it in my practice when needed.
I strive to be inclusive. I know I have my own biases. I try my best to understand how other people feel and see through a lens I may have difficulty relating to. Birthing and feeding information and graphics are often very gendered and picture light skinned people. Please know that I do look for things outside of this majority. And please let me know how I can do better!
I hope you read my blog and learn something (ahem, I’m a Ravenclaw). I hope you can feel seen and know you’re not alone in this parenting thing. Please let me know if you see an opportunity for improvement….or a grammatical error. I hate those. If you ever have requests, email me!
Enjoy!
Lisa
